Description Colourless crystals, odourless, tastes very bitter.
Solubility Soluble in 320 parts of water.
Identification When treated with nitric acid gives a deep red colour.
Melting Range About 178°C (After drying to constant weight at 105°C)
Loss on drying Not more than 15% when dried to constant weight at 105°C
Specific Rotation - 119° to - 127° (Determined in a solution in chloroform).
Strychnine Less than 100 PPM (by HPLC Method)
Assay  Minimum 99%
Packing and Storage Preserve in tight, light-resistant containers.
Action and Uses Denaturing of alcohol and oils. Patented on addition agent to lubricants.
