Formaldehyde

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Formaldehyde is manufactured from methanol by the process of oxidation over the Silver Catalyst. Methanol is vaporised and passed through the Catalyst where the temperature is maintained at 700° C. At this higher temperature Methanol vapour converts itself in for Formaldehyde vapour and the same is cooled with chilled water to form in the liquid stage.

CH3OH + 1/2 O2 = HCHO + H2O

After testing the liquid for the concentration, it is taken to the Main Storage Tank and sold. This Formaldehyde will be of 37% concentration, with 4% to 6% methanol content in it.
